Day 11 - Polka Dot Nails

I love, love, love this color. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Barracuda. I had been looking for the perfect light blue. I need 2 back up bottles lol. Totally one of my "go too" polishes. The polish I used for the dots is NYC- Skin Tight Denim Creme.  It's also perfect for stamping. One problem i always have with dotting is the dragging.  The dots sometimes will leave a small stray line behind and it drives me up the wall. Any tips?

  1. Great mani! I find that I can reduce or eliminate dragging by just waiting a little longer before putting top coat on. Hope that helps! :)

  2. I love this take on polka dots! Very cute!

I find that there are a couple of reasons those little strings of polish are left behind when dotting..

When I try to do multiple dots from just one "dip" - the polish starts to dry out and get gummy, which leaves that line lagging behind when you move on to the next dot.

On the flip side, when I dip my dotting tool and get a little too much polish on the tip the same thing can happen, this time from it being too runny/drippy/over loaded.

When using a dotting tool I usually drip one fat drop of polish on to a card or foil (or whatever) to work from, and when that little dot of polish I'm dipping in to starts to dry out, the gummy thing starts to happen again.

Sorry for the long winded comment, but I hope that helps! Maybe you can alter your technique a little to stop the lines from happening ;)

  3. Thanks for the tips.
@All The Pretty Polish, its not caused from the topcoat its the way I "dot" .

@WitchHazel I appreciate your long comment, I reread it a couple of times and thats exactly what I end up doing. Trying to do multiple dots from one dip in the polish. Helped alot!

  4. Love this color on you and great job on the dots! My tips:
    1. Refresh your source polish drop (or create a new drop) often. It will inevitably start thickening as it dries, so you need a fresh start.
    2. Clean your dotting tool often. Once the polish starts clumping on the tip of your tool, wipe the tip clean on a napkin, paper towel or whatever you use to wipe off excess polish.
    Hope this helps!

  5. Pretty! :-) Just wrapping up this challenge myself.

I love reading your comments. :)
